CHAPTER 8 Sensitivity to Conscience

1 And concerning the things sacrificed to idols -- we know that [²all ³knowledge ¹we have]. The knowledge inflates, but the love builds. 2 But if anyone thinks to know anything, nothing yet he knows as necessary to know. 3 But if anyone loves God, this one is known by him. 4 Concerning the food then of the ones sacrificing to idols -- we know that [²is nothing ¹an idol] in the world, and that there is no other God except one. 5 For even if indeed there are ones being called gods, whether in heaven, whether upon the earth (as there are many gods, and many lords), 6 but to us there is one God the father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we by him. 7 But [³is not ⁴in ⁵all ¹the ²knowledge]; but some with conscience of the idol until just now [²as of a thing ³sacrificed to idols ¹eat], and their conscience being weak is tainted. 8 But a food [³us ¹does not ²stand] before God; for neither if we eat do we abound, nor if we do not eat do we lack. 9 But take heed, lest perhaps [³authority ²your ¹this] [²an occasion for stumbling ¹becomes] to the ones being weak! 10 For if any should behold you, the one having knowledge, [²in ³the temple of an idol ¹reclining], shall not his conscience being weak be built up for [²the things ³sacrificed to idols ¹eating]? 11 And [³shall perish ²being weak ¹the brother] over your knowledge, for whom Christ died. 12 And thus sinning against the brethren, and striking their conscience which is weakened, [²against ³Christ ¹you sin]. 13 Therefore if a food causes [²to stumble ¹my brother], in no way shall I eat meats into the eon, that [²not ⁴my brother ¹I should ³cause] to stumble.
